Just a quick video of my little solar pool heater project. This cost me about $212 in materials so far. I already had the utility pump shown in the video so that is not included in the price. I ordered 4'x8' Acrylic sheets that I will cut in half to cover the four collector boxes which added another $200.

This video shows the basic principle of how solar pool heating systems work. Water is normally drawn from your pool using your pool circulation pump and returned the to pool after going through a filter. When a solar pool heater is installed, a diverter valve is installed to send pool water through solar panels on your roof where it can heat up and be returned to the pool as warm water. The diverter valve also serves to bypass the solar panels when the water reaches the desired temperature. This can me managed with a manual valve or with an automated solar pool heating controller.

Here's the finished project. As I mentioned in the video I didn't need to run the booster pump after I had it running. The suction of the water coming back down from the roof with the added pressure of the pool pump was enough to keep it going on its own. I'll update the description after it's run for a while and we see if it really does any good long term.
The Solar Breeze is like a Roomba for your pool. it's a robotic pool skimmer and is completely powered by the sun using solar panels on the top of the device. it motors around your pool randomly and sucks up all of the leaves and debris floating on the top of your pool water before it sinks to the bottom. You just have to empty the tray every once in a while. The Solar Breeze is sure to save you time and money on your pool cleaning. Available at: http://odditymall.com/solar-breeze
